Trang Church

Tamthiang, Mueang District, Trang Province.

The historic church, almost a hundred years old, located in Trang, bears an inscription above the entrance stairs that reads, "Christian Cathedral, constructed in 1915." Originally, the bell tower was just a flat rooftop resembling an ancient military fort. It was later renovated due to the overwhelming sound of the bell in the second-floor tower, which led to the addition of a higher level as seen today. The cathedral underwent significant changes, including a roof replacement from the old square cement tiles to synthetic rubber asphalt tiles on both the exterior and interior. The ceiling was covered with gypsum board, and the floors were laid with cream-colored tiles, with renovations taking place from September to October 1985. Later, when construction of a new church began, the synthetic roofing tiles were replaced with more durable sheets, since the original tiles would warp in the heat, causing leaks during the rainy season. The stage was also lowered during this renovation. In 2007, a complete restoration was carried out, ensuring that the church remains a cherished part of the community to this day.
