Sampeng Market originally began as a Chinese community that settled in Thailand, transforming the area into a bustling trading hub. It became one of the largest commercial districts in Bangkok and flourished during the reign of King Rama IV. In addition to being a center of commerce, it was also known for its vice, featuring gambling dens, prostitution, and opium trade. Even today, Sampeng Market remains one of the largest marketplaces in the country and a significant wholesale trading center.
