“Pilok” comes from the words “Philok,” which means “ghost city.” It has a remarkable history; this area was once a terrifying land plagued by deaths from violence and jungle fever. Particularly during the mining era, conflicts arose between Thai police and Burmese laborers. The Thai authorities prohibited the Burmese workers from selling ores to the British, but the Burmese defied this rule, resulting in clashes that led to many injuries and fatalities. Over time, the name was altered by the Burmese into “Pilok,” which later became the name of the district. To reach this destination, travelers must navigate through 399 winding curves. Along the way, you will be greeted by stunning natural landscapes, with the Jokkradin Waterfall being a highlight. Additionally, the pristine beauty of Khao Chang Phuak and Khao Chang Suek makes this an ideal spot for nature lovers and those seeking a relaxing journey through the untouched forests of Kanchanaburi.
