The world of museums is often filled with fascinating insights waiting to be discovered. The more you unravel the mysteries of the past, the more enjoyable your learning experience becomes. If you're looking to travel back in time to explore Phuket's history and the surrounding region, this museum serves as a high-quality time machine, offering a deep dive into the history, archaeology, ethnology, and cultural heritage of Southern Thailand along the Andaman coast. The architectural design of this museum emulates traditional local homes found in Phuket, and its stunning exterior beautifully reflects the roots of the local heritage. Due to its impressive design, the building has been awarded for outstanding architectural work in promoting arts and culture, a proud honor for the people of Phuket. The museum comprises two main buildings. The first showcases the prehistoric stories of the western coastline, the early historical period when Indian civilization began to expand its influence, the history and methods of tin mining, and rubber plantation—the primary occupations of the region’s residents. It also features displays of local arts and ethnology of the communities living in the Malay Peninsula. The second building presents scenes and narratives from the Battle of Thalang, which pitted Siam against Burma, alongside the fascinating lifestyles and traditions of the Hokkien Chinese community in Phuket. Here, you can observe their traditional attire, model houses, daily life artifacts, and an overview of the various ethnic groups that have made their home in Phuket, such as the sea gypsies. Location: The museum is situated at the intersection of Thao Thepkrasattri and Thao Srisunthorn Monuments, approximately 200 meters down Paklok Road from the monument.
