Wat Chak Yai Buddhist Park, Chanthaburi

Tambon Phliw, Amphoe Laemsing, Chanthaburi 22190

Chak Yai Temple was established in 1955 by Phra Ajahn Maha Bua Yannasampanno (currently holding the ecclesiastical title Phra Thammavisutthimongkol). The term "Chak" refers to a type of native tree that was common at that time. Phra Ajahn Maha Bua settled at this temple after local devotees donated a 26-rai and 2-ngan plot of land (approximately 45 rai today). Chak Yai Temple is situated in a large forest area with a variety of trees, including rubber trees. At that time, the temple served as a monastic retreat, consisting only of a hut made from thatch, with walls woven from leaves. It was provided by Phra Ajahn Maha Bua for monks to practice meditation, and during that period, there were no permanent structures at the site.
