Wang Wiwekaram Temple, also known as Wat Luang Por Uttama, is a significant temple led by the renowned monk Phra Raj Udom Mongkol (Luang Por Uttama). This temple was built in 1953 through the collaborative efforts of Luang Por Uttama, along with the local Karen and Mon communities, in the area of Wang Kalang, Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province. It is located near the Thailand-Myanmar border, approximately 220 kilometers from Kanchanaburi town. The temple holds great importance for the local community, particularly for the Mon people, who regard Luang Por Uttama as the "God of the Mon." The Wang Wiwekaram Temple was established out of the deep faith in Luang Por and served as his residence for many years. It stands as a representative of Luang Por and is seen as a sacred site for the Mon people, where they can conduct their traditional rituals. Every February, a celebration resembling Luang Por Uttama's birthday is held, featuring a variety of activities, religious ceremonies, rope wrestling competitions, and cultural performances. Local traditions are showcased, including Mon dances and the Kayin dance, with participants often dressing in traditional Mon Thai attire.
