This temple, originally an ancient temple, is known as Wat Chee Pakhao, or sometimes referred to as Wat Pakhao. It is believed to have been established during the Ayutthaya period. Later, during the reign of King Rama I of the Rattanakosin Kingdom, Princess Mother of Sri Sudarak (Kaew), who was a sister of King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke Maharaj, renovated the temple during that era. As time passed, erosion caused by water gradually damaged the temple's banks until it reached the front of the ordination hall. Consequently, King Rama IV, King Chulalongkorn, graciously ordered Phra Khun Monthree to oversee the construction of a new ordination hall, raising it from its original location. He instructed officials to define the boundaries around the new hall, replacing the original sacred precinct, with dimensions of 15 "wa" in length and 7 "wa" in width. Furthermore, he ordered the construction of a dam in front of the temple to prevent further erosion, which was eventually successful. Once all tasks were completed satisfactorily, the temple was renamed Wat Sri Sudaram and elevated to the status of a third-class royal temple, designated as a Worarivihara. This was done in commemoration of Princess Mother of Sri Sudarak, the grandmother of the king, who had established the temple on the Monday of the full moon in the 12th lunar month of the Year of the Rabbit in 2410 Buddhist Era, which was the 15th year of his reign (towards the end of his reign). This was in accordance with the royal decree regarding the sacred precinct, with evidence found in the ordination hall (the old ordination hall has since been designated as a vihara in front of the current ordination hall).
