Wat Thep Phithak Punnaram

Pak Chong, Nakhon Ratchasima

This temple enshrines the "Phra Buddha Sakkalasi Mangkhal," a name bestowed by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the ninth monarch of Thailand. The locals commonly refer to it as "Luang Por Khao" or "Luang Por Yai," which translates to "White Buddha" or "Great Buddha." This statue depicts the Buddha in a seated posture, bestowing blessings, and is made of reinforced concrete. It majestically stands atop a hill, rising 112 meters (or 56 wah) above ground, symbolizing the 56 virtues of the Buddha. The statue itself reaches a height of 45 meters, representing the 45 years that the Buddha served to guide sentient beings, reflecting the time He spent in His spiritual mission.
