Chiang Mai Royal Agricultural Research Center (Khun Wang)

Mae Win Sub-district, Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai.

**Research Center for Cold Climate Plants and Fruits: A Hub of Knowledge and Technology Transfer for Farmers** For those yearning for a picturesque scene of blooming pink flowers nestled among lush green mountains, the Royal Agricultural Research Center, Chiang Mai (Khun Wang) stands out as a must-visit spot to admire Thailand's cherry blossoms, known as "Nang Phaya Sua Khorng." Perched at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level, this location offers not only stunning views of the cherry blossoms at their peak bloom but also the opportunity to enjoy the cool, refreshing air typical of winter. The Royal Agricultural Research Center, Chiang Mai (Khun Wang) is situated between the indigenous Pakakêhn and Hmong villages in Mae Win Subdistrict, Hang Dong District, encircled by the majestic Inthanon Mountain Range. Established after His Majesty the King visited Khun Wang in 1980, upon observing the extensive opium cultivation by local farmers, he graciously instructed the Horticultural Division of the Department of Agriculture to convert this area into a research station for improving farming practices. The aim was to promote and transfer cold climate farming technologies as an alternative to opium cultivation for the local farmers. Today, the project area serves as a hub for cultivating and researching various cold climate plants and fruits such as pears, plums, macadamia nuts, Chinese chestnuts, and strawberries. Additionally, it has become a popular eco-tourism destination due to its consistently cool weather year-round. **Must-Visit Attractions:** - The viewpoint for Nang Phaya Sua Khorng along the "Thai Sakura Road" within the research center. - The coffee farm, where visitors can observe fresh Arabica coffee beans of the Catimor variety right from the trees. The cherry blossoms typically bloom from mid-January to mid-February each year. There are four lodges available for accommodation (each can host 4-8 guests) and two camping areas for those looking to enjoy the outdoors. **Activities Not to Be Missed:** - Explore the agricultural experimental plots within the center. - Capture beautiful photos with the cherry blossoms, which only bloom once a year.
