The Khlung Kraben Wildlife Sanctuary, established under a ministerial announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives in 1999, serves as an area under the management of the Khlung Kraben Bay Development Center, following royal initiatives. This sanctuary encompasses a variety of habitats, including dry evergreen forests, deciduous forests, coastal mangroves, and mudflats, covering approximately 11,370 acres across Klong Kud and Ramphan sub-districts in Tha Mai District, Chanthaburi Province, as well as Sanam Chai sub-district in Nayai Am District, Chanthaburi Province. The Khlung Kraben Bay Development Center is dedicated to research and studies aimed at guiding sustainable development appropriate for the coastal areas of Chanthaburi. One notable project by the center is the nature trail located opposite the development center. This trail allows visitors to engage with the natural environment, fostering a better understanding of the mangrove ecosystem and how to utilize its resources effectively. The nature trail spans 1,600 meters and typically takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete. Informational signs are placed along the path, highlighting the natural food sources and herbal resources available for the surrounding communities. Through systematic collaboration with local communities and various organizations, initiatives for conserving and restoring the forest areas have proven successful. The recovery of previously encroached lands has resulted in a rebounding natural ecosystem, with an increase in the populations of endangered wildlife species such as barking deer and others. This positive environmental change has not only benefited local ecosystems but also enhanced the quality of life for community members, shifting local attitudes towards a greater appreciation for natural resources. As a result of these endeavors, several organizations such as the Khlung Kraben Conservation Club and the Coral Conservation Club have been established. In recognition of these achievements, the Khlung Kraben Wildlife Sanctuary was awarded the "Outstanding Wildlife Management and Conservation" award for 2006. The sanctuary is open to visitors every day from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Group visits should be arranged in advance through the Khlung Kraben Bay Development Center. Additionally, the center offers accommodations for training and seminars, which can be booked ahead of time by calling 0 3936 9216-8 or faxing 0 3936 9219.
