Once, it was the original Wat Wang Wiwekaram, established in 1953 by Luang Phor Uttama along with local villagers, including Karen and Mon settlers, in an area known as Sam Prasob. This is where three rivers converge: the Songkahlia River, the Bikhlee River, and the Rantee River. Later, the construction of the Vajiralongkorn Dam (Khao Laem Dam) caused significant flooding in the old Sangkhla Buri district, submerging the original temple. Consequently, Luang Phor Uttama relocated the temple to a hillside, leaving the former site underwater. During the high water season, only the tops of the temple's structures are visible, providing a breathtaking sight for visitors who can take a boat ride along the banks of the river. Here, one can witness the daily lives of the Mon community and see the tops of the Bodh Gaya stupa as one drift along the river. During the dry season, the water recedes, revealing the church, bell tower, and the remains of the old temple that rise above the water. This allows for exploration of the site, making it a captivating attraction and an Unseen Thailand destination. Visitors can rent long-tail boats near the Uttama Nasorn Bridge to explore the submerged city beneath the waves.
