If immersing yourself in the charm of old-town shopping, where the beautiful past comes back to life, is a classic travel experience that creates unforgettable memories, then you will find it in every step of your stroll along the Kad Kong Ta walking street, held every weekend. This market is one of the most vibrant places in Lampang, with old, valuable buildings lining both sides of the street. These structures showcase a blend of Western, Burmese, and Chinese architecture, all impeccably preserved. Here, you can shop for local products, handmade crafts, traditional foods, and souvenirs while enjoying cultural performances in a lively plaza that whisk you back to Lampang's prosperous days gone by. The market's history dates back over a century when this area was an economic hub located beside the Wang River, which is an excellent location for trade. By 1916, however, this trading center began to decline due to the Northern Railway line reaching Lampang, prompting residents to settle around the new railway station, giving rise to a new community known as "Kao Jao." Meanwhile, the Kong Ta community was left in quiet solitude. Today, thanks to the efforts of the local people, the area has once again become an important trading hub, embracing its history while adding vibrant colors to the city, making it an enticing destination. Kad Kong Ta Market operates every Saturday and Sunday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
