Indulge in an endless variety of ripe fruits straight from the garden, including different types of durian, mangosteen, and longkong. Experience a homestay where you can savor creative dishes made from seasonal fruits combined with local herbs and spices. The community of fruit growers at the base of Khao Baisri has been established for over 200 years. There are many legends surrounding the mountain that is the heart of this community. The name Khao Baisri comes from the peak that resembles the pointed 'Bai Sri' (sacred leaf). This fertile land, characterized by a humid tropical climate with abundant rainfall, is ideal for cultivating various tropical fruits. The highlight is the durian, featuring varieties such as Monthong, Chanee, Kan Yao, and Puang Mannee, each with its own unique characteristics. Other fruits include mangosteen, rambutan, longkong, salak, and tarap. The fruit growers have come together to create a collective spanning over a hundred rai, offering visitors the chance to explore the farm while tasting fruits. Under the "Community-Led Agriculture Tourism Initiative," or "Rak Khao Baisri," guests can pluck and taste fruits that have been carefully selected for ripeness. Besides the delightful experience of sampling fresh fruits, visitors can also learn to identify ripe fruits ready for harvest—for instance, with durians, you can check the brownish-grey lines on the shell or listen for the distinctive hollow sound that indicates increased air pockets inside, a result of moisture evaporation. For mangosteen, if you prefer it ripe, select the darker purple ones; however, if you wish to keep it fresh for several days, choose those with a green stem. In addition to the fresh fruits, guests staying at the homestay can enjoy the renowned local dishes of Tha Mai, Chanthaburi. Here, fruits are creatively combined with local herbs, such as stir-fried crispy durian with young pepper, durian papaya salad, and tarap chili paste, which is increasingly rare as few people cultivate tarap anymore. Other delicious offerings include boiled free-range chicken infused with cardamom and sour pork.
