Tsunami Memorial Sculpture

Nai Theng Alley on Petchkasem Road is vibrant and lively, located in Takua Pa.

Phang Nga is a province that suffered the most devastating damage during the tsunami that struck the Thai coastline on December 26, 2004. To commemorate this tragic event, the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, under the Ministry of Culture, established the "Tsunami Memorial." This impressive monument features the sculpture "Stabile," designed by Swedish artist Lars Englund, renowned for his minimalistic style and celebrated both nationally and internationally. Englund's works have been showcased in Venice, Paris, New York, and Sweden. "Stabile," which signifies something solid and unified, is an abstract geometric sculpture made from five straight lines of brushed stainless steel intertwined to form the piece. Standing approximately 6 meters tall, it reaches toward the sky and the vastness of the universe. The artist encourages viewers to interpret its meaning for themselves, having expressed that "the audience can access the imagination in my work only through their minds."
