Thanang Gate

Tambon Nai Mueang, Mueang Lamphun District

The significance of the Tha Nang Gate in the past is said to have been a water gateway used by Queen Cham Thewi to embark on her boat. It also served as a crucial access point for maritime trade between different cities. As the city of Haripunjai thrived, merchants from distant towns began to come and trade at this waterway, making it well-known among them. Historically, Chinese traders recognized both Haripunjai and Tha Nang. In the area of Ban Chang Khong, many Chinese merchants once resided. At one time, this place was a prosperous community and an important trading hub, reflecting the rich history and flourishing past of this gate, which the people of Lamphun take great pride in.
