The temple is located in the city of Mae Hong Son, not far from the airport, and is known as Phra That Doi Kong Mu. It is an important temple in the Mae Hong Son province, situated next to Nong Jong Kham, offering a peaceful and serene atmosphere, characterized by Burmese architectural style. Wat Jong Kham, or the Royal Temple of Wat Jong Kham, was established in the year 1797, making it the first temple in Mae Hong Son. This ancient structure is built in the style of Tai Yai architecture. A standout feature is its nine-tiered spire, and it houses a significant religious site: the Luang Phor Toh chapel, which enshrines the largest Buddha statue in Mae Hong Son. This statue was created in 1934 by Burmese craftsmen. Inside the chapel, the statue of Luang Phor Toh serves as the principal Buddha image, crafted in 1926 by skilled Burmese artisans. Notably, there is also a large Buddha statue modeled after Phra Si Sakayamuni from the chapel of Wat Suthat. The temple is named "Jong Kham" because it is adorned with gold leaf.
