Wat Traphang Thong, or the ancient temple in the middle of a pond, is located in Sukhothai province, right in front of the principal stupa. The temple features a small pavilion that houses a right-foot impression of the Buddha, carved from dark gray stone. This structure was commissioned during the reign of King Mahathammaratcha Lithai in 1902, modeled after a design from Sri Lanka, and was originally placed at Phra Bat Yai Mountain (Khao Sumnakut) before being relocated to the pavilion today. Inside the impression of the Buddha's foot, there are intricate carvings of 108 auspicious symbols and floral patterns surrounding it. The historical site is set on a beautiful island in the middle of the pond, known as Traphang Thong. At its center is a bell-shaped stupa constructed with laterite as its base and brick as the primary material above. Surrounding this central stupa are eight smaller stupas. Next to it lies the newly restored ordination hall, which is built upon the foundation of the original temple. It also houses a stone imprint of the Buddha's footprint. Visiting in the early morning when crowds are sparse offers a serene experience as you stroll across the bridge to the island, enjoying the splendid views of the stupas. The moat surrounding the area is home to a variety of fish, adding to the tranquil atmosphere. Visitors can also pay their respects to Phra Pho Chao in the ordination hall.
