Wat Ton Son was established as a temple during the late Ayutthaya period, approximately in the year 2310 BE (Buddhist Era). It is believed that this temple was built towards the end of the Ayutthaya era because the old ubosot (ordination hall) features soft lotus bud designs and ornate pillars; however, there are no historical records to serve as evidence. The local elders have passed down stories through generations. Over time, the temple fell into disrepair and almost became abandoned due to a lack of revered objects or artifacts. In 1945, Phra Ratchasuwannamolee, the former abbot of Ang Thong province, initiated the construction of various permanent structures. At that time, the temple only occupied a little over 14 rai. Subsequently, efforts were made to purchase additional land to expand the temple’s grounds, and multiple purchases were completed until the temple's area increased. Today, the total area of Wat Ton Son is 27 rai, 3 ngan, and 32 square wah.
