Wat Tung Yu is an ancient temple that dates back to the Mangrai dynasty. It is mentioned in the poetic work "Nirat Haripunchai," written around 2017 BE (Buddhist Era). The temple has undergone restoration and revitalization by successive Chiang Mai princes. Notably, in 1909, Prince Intaworawong Suriyawong, the 8th ruler of Chiang Mai, commissioned the construction of a chedi and a royal umbrella for the temple.
