Wat Nang Kui is situated outside the island city, on the southern side adjacent to the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Its address is 30 Moo 5, Samphao Lom Sub-district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. According to the Department of Fine Arts, the temple was established in 2130 B.E. by a wealthy woman named Nang Kui, who decided to build the temple on the southern side of Ayutthaya Island, where the river flows past. In the past, this area thrived, as evidenced by artifacts such as the meditation posture Buddha statue from the Dvaravati period, dated approximately to the 11th to 16th century B.E. (approximately 1100 - 1600 A.D.). After Ayutthaya fell to the Burmese in 2310 B.E., Wat Nang Kui suffered significant damage and was left in a state of disrepair. During the Rattanakosin period, specifically in the reign of King Rama III, renovations were undertaken to restore various temples in Ayutthaya (the exact year remains unknown). Wat Nang Kui received much-needed repairs to its sermon hall and other facilities. At present, the temple has sought permission from the Department of Fine Arts to continue restoring the ordination hall, which has deteriorated over time. Inside the ordination hall, Wat Nang Kui houses a principal Buddha statue over 400 years old, including the aforementioned meditation posture Buddha statue from the Dvaravati period, dating to the 11th to 16th century.
