Wat Bowon Sathan Suthawas, also known as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha within the Outer Palace, is located within the grounds of the Bowon Sathan Mongkhon Palace, much like the Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram in the Grand Palace. As it is a temple situated within the royal palace, it does not have resident monks. The temple was commissioned by Prince Maha Sakdipolsep, the royal prince of Bowon Sathan Mongkhon, during the reign of King Nangklao (Rama IV). Unfortunately, he passed away before the construction was completed. Therefore, the temple's completion occurred during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), who granted it the name "Wat Bowon Sathan Suthawas."
