Wat Phra Non

22 Phadung Muay Tor Road, Chong Kham, Mae Hong Son

Watch the Burmese architecture that blends perfectly with Tai Yai culture at Wat Phra Non. Interesting things in this temple It is a reclining Buddha image with a length of 11 meters and 90 centimeters. In addition, inside the antique storage room There are also Tripitaka books and ancient artifacts. Bowls and utensils of the Japanese World War 2. At the back of the temple, there are two pairs of lions standing side by side. It is believed that Shan Kalay and Chao Nang Mea were the builders and on the opposite side there are 2 pagodas in Burmese art, inside the first pagoda there is a Buddha image and the second pagoda has 4 Burmese Buddha images. In front of this second pagoda, there is a large Buddha image sitting in meditation outdoors without shelter. Very interesting. This temple is therefore another good program in Mae Hong Son that travelers should not miss. Origin of Wat Phra Non According to history Wat Phra Non was built when Thursday, March 17, 1875, by Phaya Singhanatracha (formerly known as Chankalay, a Tai Yai), the first governor of Mae Hong Son. Which corresponds to the reign of King Rama V. There are 2 reasons for creating a reclining Buddha image: 1. To commemorate that you have been appointed as the governor of Mae Hong Son. and was given the name "Phaya Singhanatracha" in 1874 and also celebrated the occasion that Mae Hong Son village was raised to be a city and 2. He was born on Tuesday, therefore built a reclining Buddha (Phra Reclining Buddha) as the principal Buddha image. priceless and to be a place of worship and worship Of the people of Mae Hong Son, however, due to the events of the country around the border is not peaceful. The reclining Buddha was therefore not finished. And he passed away before in 1884. Later, Chao Nang Mea, his wife, ascended to the city as the second governor. He built a reclining Buddha image of 11 meters and 90 centimeters in length. and held a grand celebration Along with the name Wat Phra Non according to the place where the reclining Buddha image was previously enshrined and invited Kruba Chomphu to be the first abbot of Wat Phra Non Temple of the Lord There is a story passed down that in 1934, the roof of the reclining Buddha hall was covered with fairly old zinc. One day, a cowherd boy came to take a nap in the temple while half asleep and half awake. saw that the reclining Buddha was getting up because of the heavy rain and that the Buddha could not stand the rain, so the cowherds ran into the village and told the villagers to hurry up and see the reclining Buddha. because the Lord will rise and flee When the villagers heard this, they flocked to see the temple. and they were surprised that the two sides of the reclining Buddha's feet is actually bent up and overlap a bit The left foot that overlaps the right side is shorter. when so Faith groups in the city flocked in to see and help each other donate small factors to collect as factors to buy new zinc to roof the temple instead of the old zinc. The municipalities and outside the district gathered to pay homage to the Buddha image. It appeared that the reclining Buddha had tears flowing from his eyes as if crying. Which this event took place for about 6 months and a few years later, World War 2 occurred, which the villagers believed that this was a miracle of the reclining Buddha image. To help remind people not to be careless and in the year 2486 in late September after World War II occurred. There was a group of thieves sneaking in to pierce the back of the reclining Buddha image in order to take the gold and silver glasses that the first governor had packed and carried them all. But the villagers helped to repack the valuables and close them as before. Currently, that mark still exists. As for those thieves Rumor has it that everyone is different. Whether it's true or not, this is a story from a miracle of the Lord Buddha that the villagers respect.
