Wat Phumin

Phakong, Tambon Nai Wiang, Mueang Nan District.

The important temple in the city of Nan has been a landmark for over 400 years, showcasing stunning architecture, particularly its ubosot (ordination hall), which is uniquely designed in the shape of a quadrangular roof—something found nowhere else in Thailand. Outside, leading up to the ubosot, there are two serpent statues resembling naga, giving the impression that this building is perched on the back of a mythical serpent. Inside the Phumin Temple's ubosot, one can find a one-baht banknote that features an image of Phumin Temple, printed by the Thai government during World War II. Additionally, the hall is adorned with wall paintings known as "Hoop Taem," which depict the tale of the ancestors, earning it the nickname "Whispers of Love that Echo Throughout the World." Moreover, there are large Buddha statues situated in all four directions. It is believed that visitors should walk around once and observe which Buddha statue smiles at them the most—this is the one to ask for blessings.
