Wat Maha That is an ancient temple that has long been a symbol of the town of Chiang Khan. Established in 1654, the same year as the founding of Chiang Khan, it served as the administrative center for the local ruler for many periods. Within the temple grounds, you can find the throne of the local lord and the victory bell. The Maha That stupa is a revered site, while the old ubosot (ordination hall) and the assembly hall boast original wall paintings from ancient times, though they have faded significantly over the years. The main Buddha image enshrined here is highly sacred and has been a spiritual anchor for the people of Chiang Khan throughout the ages.
