Wat Maha Phuttharam (Wat Phra To)

Cukhan Road, Mueang Tai Subdistrict, Si Sa Ket Municipality.

Located in the heart of Sisaket city, the temple houses a revered Buddha statue that symbolizes the identity and spirit of the local community. Known as "Luang Por To," this large Buddha statue is in the posture of Mara's defeat, standing at an impressive height of 6.85 meters from base to crown, and it has a lap width of 3.50 meters. Maha Phuttharam Temple is recognized as an ancient temple that has long been tied to the history and culture of Sisaket. The story goes that during the early days of development in establishing the new city of Sisaket, the "Luang Por To" statue was discovered unexpectedly in the heart of a dense forest known as Pa Daeng. This prompted the creation of a temple at the site of the statue's discovery, originally named "Wat Phra To" or "Wat Pa Daeng." Eventually, the temple's name was changed to "Wat Maha Phuttharam," reflecting its significance and heritage.
