This temple is affiliated with the Chinese Buddhist Sangha of Thailand and is recognized as one of the largest and most beautiful monasteries in the Mahayana tradition in the country. The architecture and decor are elegantly designed according to the principles of Feng Shui and ancient Chinese artistry. It often sees a steady stream of visitors who come to seek blessings and remedies for their zodiac year. It’s conveniently accessible via the MRT; simply alight at the Wat Mangkon station. Established in 1871 by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the temple was built on a selected site of 4 rai and 18 wah. His Majesty commissioned Phya Chote Ratchasetthi, the Minister of the Left, along with Chinese Buddhist devotees, to construct the temple, which was originally named "Leng Neuy Yi." In this name, "Leng" means dragon, "Neuy" translates to lotus, and "Yi" means monastery. Later, His Majesty graciously renamed it "Wat Mangkon Kamalawat."
