The ancient temple dating back to the Sukhothai period is located in the heart of Loei city. We can easily walk here from Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat and Wat Nang Phaya. Upon arrival, you will see the distinctive Lanna-style stupa, which is a significant highlight of this temple. The temple grounds are spacious, allowing for a pleasant stroll, devoid of the crowds typically found in larger temples across the street. Currently, the temple is in the process of constructing a large statue of Phra Nang Phaya, towering approximately 5 to 8 meters above the ground, which will soon become another attraction. This stupa, nearly 600 years old, dates back to the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng. It is said to enshrine the relics of the Buddha. Additionally, nearby, there is a museum housing beautiful Sukhothai-style Buddha images. The museum also showcases old coins, banknotes, musical instruments, and glass artifacts, with walls adorned in exquisite murals and an ancient bell tower. Recently built, this museum features a garden with six swan statues standing next to the ubosot (ordination hall), alongside a sermon hall within the temple grounds. Another feature worth mentioning is the impressive 4.5-meter Dharma Wheel situated prominently within the temple. The abbot, Phra Kositthadhammawiphach, initially designed it for Buddhists to turn themselves. However, due to its size and weight, it has been left as a display piece instead. The Dharma Wheel consists of eight spokes, symbolizing the Eightfold Path, or the path to enlightenment. Furthermore, its circular shape (chakra) represents the teachings of the Buddha in the Middle Way and signifies the completeness of the Dharma.
