Originally, this temple was known as Wat Sao Thong Hin or Wat Wang Hin, and it was renamed Wat Sanpahya Watthanaram in 1952. Notable features within the temple include the small vihara, which is a brick and concrete structure measuring 500 meters in width and 11.50 meters in length, facing east toward the Chao Phraya River. The gabled wooden roof features an arch shaped like a lotus petal. Here, one can admire the exquisite plaster sculpture known as “Phra Chai,” which depicts the Buddha casting a shadow on a cliff. Additionally, there is a reclining Buddha statue housed in a royal coffin adorned with gold lacquer and floral patterns, with disciples honoring the revered figure. This ancient and rare Buddha statue has long been a cherished symbol of the Sanphaya community.
