Wat Chiang Man

Ratchapakinai, Si Phum Subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District.

This temple is one of significant importance. The inscriptions found within the temple mention that King Mangrai ordered the construction of a stupa at this site, thereby establishing what is now known as Wat Chiang Man. Wat Chiang Man is the oldest temple in Chiang Mai province. Inside, you can find the Elephant Encircled Stupa, designed to replicate the Elephant Encircled Stupa built by King Ramkhamhaeng. There are also two important Buddha statues: the White Emerald Buddha and the Stone Buddha in the posture of the Tortured Elephant.

Province: Chiang Mai
