Wat Pho Kaew Noppakhun was established around 1928 by Mr. Prom Noppakhun. In its early days, Phra Rod presided over the temple, originally known as "Wat Bang Kaew," because it is located by the Bang Kaew canal on the southern side, marked by a silver Bodhi tree that grew along the waterway. Later, the temple's name was changed to "Wat Pho Kaew Noppakhun," incorporating the surname "Noppakhun" of the temple's founder with "Pho Kaew" to honor and commemorate its creator. Locally, it is often referred to simply as "Wat Pho Kaew."
