Supachalasai National Stadium

154 Rama 4 Road, Wang Mai, Pathum Wan.

Originally, athletic competitions for Thai students used to be held at Suankularb Wittayalai School. However, in 1934, Admiral Suphachalasai, the first Director-General of the Department of Physical Education, moved the venue to Sanam Luang. He also signed a lease for land in the Wang Mai area with Chulalongkorn University (which was previously known as Windsor Palace) to establish a sports stadium and a central physical education school. The new sports facility was named Athletes Stadium. The Department of Physical Education officially relocated there in 1938 and subsequently moved the annual men's public athletics competition to this location as well. Three years later, the Department renamed the facility from Athletes Stadium to the “Supachalasai National Stadium,” or as it is more commonly referred to, “Supachalasai Stadium” or the “National Sports Stadium.” Currently, it is under the management of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), which was originally known as the Department of Physical Education. Some parts of the stadium's area have been returned to Chulalongkorn University for educational purposes, while other sections serve as offices for the Sports Authority. Additionally, it hosts various sports and recreational associations and organizations. Today, the stadium acts as both a community service center and a hub for student activities, promoting recreational pursuits, scientific research in sports and health, and providing exercise facilities. It also serves as a venue for sporting events across the country, including the first Southeast Asian Peninsular Games (SEAP Games), the fifth Asian Games, the fourth SEAP Games, the sixteenth Asian Games, the eighth SEAP Games, and the King's Cup and Queen's Cup football tournaments, among others. Location: 154 Rama I Road, Wang Mai, Pathum Wan, Bangkok. For further inquiries about using the stadium, please call 0 2216 5591 or 0 2214 0120, extensions 3010, 3011, and fax 0 2214 1801.
