Seri Thai Park

Soi Seri Thai 53, Seri Thai Road, Khlong Kum, Bueng Kum.

Sathit Thai Park, formerly known as Bueng Kum Water Park, is situated on a large public water body called "Bueng Kum" or "Bueng Ta Thong," which has been gradually encroached upon, leading to its shallow condition. In 1985, it underwent significant renovation and development under the royal initiative of His Majesty the King to create a water retention area aimed at solving Bangkok's flooding issues, capable of holding up to 1.5 million cubic meters of water. It includes water control gates for adjusting water levels and directing excess water into the Bueng Kum Canal, which flows into the Saen Saeb Canal. Subsequently, the area was expanded and transformed into a public park and forest garden as part of the "Forest Park of Bangkok" initiative, commemorating the 50th anniversary of His Majesty the King's reign, retitled as "Bueng Kum Water Park" in 1995. In 1995, members of the Free Thai Movement requested a section of the park to be designated as the "Free Thai Square." Later, Khun Dusadee Phanomrung, the heir of the Free Thai Movement leader, proposed renaming the park to "Sathit Thai Park" to serve as a memorial for the Free Thai Movement. The official inauguration took place on August 16, 1997, coinciding with the 52nd anniversary of the end of World War II. In August 1999, the "Sathit Thai Memorial Building" was constructed, modeled after "Thachang Residence," the official residence of Mr. Pridi Panomyoung, who served as the regent during King Rama VIII's reign and was the leader of the Free Thai Movement. Thachang Residence became the headquarters for the Free Thai Movement during World War II. Within Sathit Thai Park, visitors can discover several interesting relaxation spots, including the Sathit Thai Memorial Museum, a public library, a children's and youth library, and the Bueng Kum Water Park Museum. The park boasts unique features such as riverside plants adorning the edges of the pond, waterfalls, and a central fountain in the pond, with a natural island in the middle that hosts pavilions for relaxation. It features over ten species of palm trees, both native and exotic, including some rare and difficult-to-cultivate varieties like the fountain palm and blue sugar palm. There are three forest gardens open for exploration: "Tawisuk Forest Garden," "Rom Sai Forest Garden," and "Jareon Kan Forest Garden," filled with towering trees that provide a serene canopy. Today, Sathit Thai Park is a popular place for relaxation and exercise. Location: Saha Krom Village, Soi Seri Thai 57, Seri Thai Road, Bueng Kum District, Bangkok. Blog about traveling in Bangkok: Explore the South Sathorn area, a hub of religion and belief, take a breath of fresh air in "Forest in the City," experience the vibrant wall art in Charoen Krung, pay homage at the National Memorial, and visit military museums dedicated to honoring sacrifices.
