The only place in Thailand where you can go whale watching is at Bang Taboon Bay, without needing to travel abroad. The boat departure point is located at the mouth of Bang Taboon Bay, in the Bang Taboon sub-district of Ban Laem district. It takes about two hours by boat to reach the open sea. Along the way, you'll pass through charming fishing villages and witness mangrove forests that serve as nurseries for baby crabs. You'll also encounter various seabirds waiting to catch small fish. From September to November every year, there’s a good chance to spot Bryde's whales. You can always ask the crew if this is a good time to see them. The reason so many Bryde's whales can be found at the mouth of Bang Taboon Bay is that it’s where several rivers converge, emptying into the sea, creating a nutrient-rich environment. If you prefer to charter the whole boat with friends, you can opt for the larger boat, which accommodates up to 12 people for 5,500 baht, or one that seats 13 to 15 people for 6,000 baht.
