Koh Chik Nok

Bang Chan, Khlong

Ko Chik is located at Tambon Bang Chan, and it serves as a pilot project for a mixed renewable energy system, utilizing solar energy and generators to provide electricity for approximately 100 households on the island. The billing system is a prepaid model. Most of the local population engages in fishing, shrimp farming, and dried seafood production. To reach Ko Chik, you can take Sukhumvit Road until you reach the intersection leading to the Koh Chang Ferry terminal. From there, turn right towards the Aang Krapong Pier, where you can park your car before boarding a boat to Ko Chik. The island's charm lies in its homestay experience, where visitors can enjoy fresh seafood at affordable prices. The friendly locals are familiar with the area, allowing you to walk around in just a day. It’s a fantastic spot for laid-back relaxation along the coastline. Originally a fishing village for over a century, Ko Chik is a peaceful community; while the men are out fishing, women and children remain on the island. Ko Chik is noteworthy for its organized approach to managing energy and environmental resources. The island has a committee that ensures proper electrical management and systematic waste disposal, setting an example for nearby islands. For travelers who appreciate homestay tourism, this destination offers a chance to experience simple living in a serene environment under the warm sun. If you venture to the eastern side of the island, passing by the temple and school, you’ll find a quiet beach where you can enjoy the sea, albeit without the glamour of more famous beaches. Ko Chik is at the forefront of mixed renewable energy initiatives, harnessing natural sources like wind and solar power for household electricity, enhancing mobile phone connectivity. The solar cells provide electricity for the entire island, supported by a diesel generator for backup during cloudy days. As such, Ko Chik stands as a model for effective energy management and environmental stewardship, showcasing the residents' involvement in both technological and administrative aspects. Travelers who find themselves with free time during a holiday should definitely visit Ko Chik. Not only will you delight in delicious food, but you'll also enjoy a peaceful retreat and gain insightful knowledge about renewable energy to take back with you.
