Khao Tangkuan is a hill that rises approximately 105 meters above sea level. At its summit stands the Phra That, an iconic stupa of Songkhla, built during the Srivijaya kingdom and featuring Vattavadi-style architecture. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the Ninth Reign, graciously enshrined sacred relics within this stupa. Each October, coinciding with the end of the Buddhist Lent, a ceremony takes place to adorn the stupa, along with the tradition of offering food to monks known as “Tak Bat Devo.” Not far from here is the Red Pavilion, constructed during the reigns of King Rama IV and King Rama V. This pavilion offers stunning views as it faces one side of Khao Tangkuan. Additionally, there's a lighthouse built during the reign of King Rama V and a viewpoint area featuring a statue of Luang Phor Toh. This location provides a panoramic 360-degree view of Songkhla city, Songkhla Lake, the Gulf of Thailand, Cape Son On, and Samila Beach. There are two ways to reach the summit of Khao Tangkuan: you can either climb the 145 steps located on the opposite side of the hill, which are interspersed with resting and viewing spots, or you can take the elevator located on the road connecting Khao Tangkuan and Khao Noi. The elevator ride costs 45 baht. The site is open daily from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM. For more information, you can call 09 9462 9999.
