Pa Sak Jolasid Dam

Nong Bua Subdistrict, Patthana Nikhom District, Lopburi.

The Longest Earth Dam in Thailand: A Flood Protection Barrier for Bangkok and its Vicinity Lopburi Province is renowned for its historical attractions, representing a significant ancient city that traces its roots back to the Kingdom of Lawo. Known for its playful monkeys, Lopburi also boasts a lesser-known agricultural tourism site where visitors can relax and immerse themselves in nature—the Pasak Chonlasit Dam. This project, initiated under the royal initiative of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1989, was undertaken by the Royal Irrigation Department to address water shortages in agricultural areas and mitigate flooding issues in the low-lying regions of the Pasak River and the lower Chao Phraya River. The Pasak Chonlasit Dam project received official approval in 1994 and took over five years to construct, successfully storing water for the first time on June 15, 1998. His Majesty the King graciously inaugurated the dam on November 25, 1999. The Pasak Chonlasit Dam holds the title of the longest earth dam in Thailand, stretching 4,860 meters. It has the capacity to store over 960 million cubic meters of water and has become a key tourist destination in Lopburi, attracting visitors from all walks of life. *Must-See Attractions:* - The Chaloem Phra Kiat Tower: A perfect spot for capturing stunning photos of the Pasak Chonlasit Dam. - The Aquatic Animal Display Pavilion. - The Pasak Chonlasit Dam showcases various freshwater fish species from the Pasak River and the lower Chao Phraya River. - The Pasak River Basin Museum: Offers insights into the traditional lifestyle of the Thai Bang people and displays ancient artifacts. The Pasak Chonlasit Dam effectively collects water from the Pasak River and was constructed at a total cost of 2,336 million Thai Baht. *Activities Not to Miss:* - Shop for souvenirs and gifts at the Chaloem Phra Kiat Tower. - Observe a wide variety of freshwater fish including the snakehead fish, Indian carp, and stingrays swimming in a large aquarium.
