Petchaburi is an ancient city that has long been an important frontier town of Thailand, renowned for various aspects of its rich history. Besides being a former residence of monarchs from the Chakri dynasty, it boasts numerous significant attractions, including vital and stunning irrigation and hydropower dams. One such highlight is the Kaeng Krachan Dam, a breathtaking location that offers refreshing experiences, especially during the rainy season. There’s also a suspension bridge that allows visitors to walk across and capture beautiful photographs of the scenic views. For those wishing to trek up Phanern Thung Mountain, it is necessary to contact the tourist information center to obtain a permit. The fees are quite reasonable: 20 baht for adults, 10 baht for children, 30 baht for a four-wheeled car, 40 baht for pickup trucks, 50 baht for vans, and 70-80 baht for vehicles with more than four wheels. Note that permits must be requested at least one day in advance if you plan to head up Phanern Thung Mountain at 5:00 AM.
