The Mae Ngat Somboon Chon Dam was constructed under the royal initiative of His Majesty the King. Originally named the Mae Ngat Dam, it is located on the Mae Ngat River, a tributary of the Ping River, in the Cho Lae Subdistrict of Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai Province. The dam is also situated within the Sir Lanna National Park. The entrance to the dam can be found approximately at kilometer 41 on Highway 107.
