Laem Sadet - Kung Krabaen Bay

Tha Mai, Tha Mai.

In 1980, Her Royal Highness Princess Rambhaibarni planted a tree at Laem Sadej Beach, which led the local residents to name this beach in her honor. Laem Sadej Beach, with its beautiful crescent-shaped stretch of fine white sand, spans approximately 2-3 kilometers. Lined with pine trees along the shore, the beach is particularly inviting from November to April when the waves are calm, making it perfect for swimming. However, during the monsoon season, the sea can become murky and the waves stronger. Not far from Laem Sadej Beach lies a garden showcasing auspicious plants from all 76 provinces of Thailand, enriched by a mangrove forest. There is a nature study path that features a variety of interesting plant species, such as red mangrove, wild orange and mangrove apple. Nearby, the Chalerm Phra Kiat Aquatic Animal Exhibition Center displays saltwater fish that inhabit the surrounding area of the Gulf of Khlung, including species such as groupers, snappers, butterflyfish, and sea bass. The center is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, from 08:30 to 16:30. For more details, you can contact them at 0 3938 8117 ext. 130. The Gulf of Khlung is also home to the Khlung Bay Development Study Center, established under royal initiative. This center focuses on research and studies to aid in developing suitable coastal conditions for Chanthaburi Province. One of the center's projects encourages public interest in exploring natural conditions, fostering an understanding of mangrove ecosystems and how to utilize these resources sustainably. The mangrove nature study path at the Khlung Bay Development Study Center is just opposite the center itself. This 1,600-meter walking trail takes about 30-45 minutes to traverse and has interpretive signs spaced throughout as well as natural food sources and medicinal plants for the surrounding communities. It is open daily from 06:30 to 18:00, but group visits should be arranged in advance through the center. Additionally, the center offers accommodation for government agencies hosting training workshops, available by prior arrangement at 0 3936 9216-8, fax 0 3936 9219. Laem Sadej Beach boasts stunning beauty and a tranquil atmosphere, surrounded by sea pines and diverse coastal plants, making it an excellent spot for camping. The Forestry Department provides tents for rent that can accommodate 2-4 people, priced at 80-120 Baht per night. For those bringing their own tents, a camping fee of 20 Baht per person per night applies. For more information, you can contact the Forestry Department at the Khlung Bay Development Study Center at 0 3936 9237.
