Located on Nakorn Sawan Road in the Wat Sommanat district, this market was established during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) and is celebrated as the first land-based market in Thailand, boasting a history of over 120 years. It is a treasure trove of both sweet and savory foods, renowned especially for its royal desserts. Among the highlights are Nanta Thai Desserts, offering authentic traditional recipes passed down from the royal kitchens of Wang Lang, and Aunt Hong’s Thai Desserts. The market also features an abundance of famous savory dishes, like the popular Rueng Ruang Noodles, which serves Hokkien-style noodles known for their texture and flavorful broth, with specialties such as crab noodles and pork rib noodles. Notably, their red pork rice was once served to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during her royal visit to Thailand. Additionally, Boonlert's wonton noodles, grilled pork, and other eateries have graced the table of His Majesty King Rama IX. There’s the famous beef noodle soup at Nangeleng, the Yam Yen Ta Fo at the Iew Yentafo shop, and traditional curry rice at Rattana’s, alongside hard-to-find delicacies like fish sausage, among many others. Interesting attractions in the area include the Chalerm Thani Cinema, also known as Nangeleng Cinema, which has been around for over 90 years. The shrine of Prince Chumphon Khet Udomsak (known affectionately as "Dad") is located within the market and serves as a sacred space for visitors seeking blessings. Nearby, there are numerous historical sites and learning opportunities, such as Wat Sunthorn Thamthan (Wat Kananleng), the resting place of the late Mitr Chaibancha, and Nangeleng Art, the very first photo studio in Thailand, where people of the time would go to take portraits and create stone locket necklaces. The market is open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and on Sunday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
