Wat Thavara Woraram, commonly referred to by locals as "Wat Yuan," is a temple belonging to the Annam sect of Mahayana Buddhism. The name "Khan Tho Tieu," which translates to "to reside firmly and permanently," reflects its origin in the Vietnamese language. The temple was officially named by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). Its establishment dates back to the reign of King Nangklao (Rama III) and is considered the first Vietnamese temple in Kanchanaburi, boasting a history of over a century. The construction was initiated by a family of Vietnamese immigrants who were devout Buddhists, following the conflicts between Thailand and Vietnam during the reign of Rama III. This family, together with others in the community, pooled their resources to build the temple around the year 1834.
