The golden Buddha statue at Wat Phayayao in Saraburi is renowned and attracts many devotees each day who come to pay their respects. This temple is considered one of the ancient sites from the Ayutthaya period in Saraburi. According to history, locals who fled from the invading forces after the fall of Ayutthaya feared that the statue would be damaged. To protect it, they covered the Buddha with lacquer and plaster, and then they enshrined it in an abandoned temple in Uthai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya.
