Wat Mahathat Yuwarachathirachakram is located along Sanam Luang, directly across from the front of the Phra That (near Silpakorn University). It is a premier royal temple of the Maha Nikaya sect. Originally named Wat Salak, it was commissioned for reconstruction by Prince of Bhoromratchakumari, who also built the Grand Palace and named it Wat Nippanaram. Later, it was renamed Wat Phra Si Sanphet and served as a location for the Council of the Tripitaka. After the passing of Prince of Bhoromratchakumari, King Rama I, Phutthayotfa Chulalok, changed the temple's name to Wat Mahathat. The addition of "Yuwarachathirachakram" came during the reign of King Rama V, Chulalongkorn, following significant renovations to the temple. Important structures within the temple complex include the ubosot (ordination hall), vihara, mandapa, the Bodhi tree hall, a small vihara known as Vihara Pholangka, and the sacred Bodhi tree, as well as Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, making it a significant religious and educational site.
