Wat Samma Chanya Was, also known as Wat Mai Klong Song, derives its name from the nearby canal. In around 1973, land measuring six rai, owned by Mrs. Phring Ketu Hiran, was graciously donated by Mr. Nim Ketu Hiran, Mr. Muam Nanwichai, and Khun Panya Sanga Sri Amphan to His Holiness the Supreme Patriarch, Prince Chinnavoralongkorn, of Wat Ratchabophit Sathit Maha Simaram. His Holiness accepted the land with great kindness and subsequently oversaw the construction of the temple. The Ministry of Education officially designated it as a temple in 1978, and on April 29, 1992, the temple received the royal granting of the boundary for ecclesiastical jurisdiction. In 1985, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the ceremony for the casting of the principal Buddha statue. In 1995, Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi visited to participate in the ceremony for the cutting of the ceremonial thread. The patrons erected a wooden sermon hall, a small kuti with four pillars, and around twenty additional kuti structures. The main ordination hall, built in the Thai architectural style with elements of ancient Khmer design, consists of two stories and is completely adorned with glazed ceramic tiles. The project was led by Phra Khru Uthaithammasophit (Chanlee Uthakoh), the former abbot, in collaboration with the local community and surrounding areas. The first level of the ordination hall serves as a space for making merit through offerings and paying homage to various Buddha statues, while the temple grounds also feature a free coffee pavilion and an area dedicated to the redemption of cattle.
