This dam is part of the Bang Pakong River Basin development project. It serves as a barrier against saltwater intrusion, providing a source of freshwater for consumption and helping to slow down the encroachment of saltwater inland. The dam has successfully reduced the distance of saltwater intrusion from 200 kilometers to 100 kilometers, extending the freshwater availability by approximately 1 to 2 months. It supplies water for agricultural use in the areas of Bang Khla, Mueang, Ban Pho, Bang Pakong, and Phan Thong districts in Chonburi Province. Additionally, it supports agricultural initiatives in the areas covered by the Phra Ong-Chaiyanuchit irrigation project, the Bang Phluang irrigation project, and the Nakhon Nayok irrigation project. The dam also aids in water allocation to support the industrial expansion in the Eastern region of the country. Located in Ban Phai Suak, Bang Kaew sub-district, the dam is approximately 6 kilometers from the main city along the Bang Pakong River, accessible via the Chachoengsao-Bang Khla route.
