Brief History
ใน พ.ศ. 1997 รัชสมัยแผ่นดินสมเด็จพระบรมไตรโลกนาถ ปรากฏในกฎหมายตราสามดวงว่า เมืองชุมพรเป็นเมืองตรี อาณาจักรฝ่ายใต้ของราชอาณาจักรกรุงศรีอยุธยา ในช่วงนี้ชนชาติจาม แห่งราชอาณาจักรจามปา ถูกชาวเวียดนามรุกราน ชาวจามกลุ่มนี้อพยพเข้าสู่กรุงศรีอยุธยาครั้งแรก ปรากฏว่ามี "อาสาจาม" ในแผ่นดินนี้ เพื่อการขยายอาณานิคมของกรุงศรีอยุธยา ส่วนหนึ่งต้องมารักษาด่านเมืองชุมพร ซึ่งเป็นเมืองตรี และตั้งชาวจาม เป็นเจ้าเมืองชุมพร และดินแดนแถบนี้ขึ้นตรงต่อกรุงศรีอยุธยา เนื่องด้วย ชาวจาม มีความสามารถในการรบ ที่มีชื่อเสียง เช่น กองอาสาจาม เป็นทหารชั้นดี มีวินัย เชี่ยวชาญการเดินเรือ รับใช้ราชสำนักมานาน และเก่งการค้ามาหลายพันปี
