"Phanom Sawan" is a name derived from the local dialect in Surin. "Phanom" translates to "mountain," while "Sawan" means "mango." The Phanom Sawan area features three interconnected hills, each known by different local names: "Phanom Kralol," meaning "the hill of the pen," stands at approximately 150 meters tall; "Phanom Prao," meaning "the male hill," rises to about 220 meters; and "Phanom Sray," meaning "the female hill," is around 210 meters high. Together, these three peaks are collectively referred to as Khao Phanom Sawan. In truth, Phanom Sawan is an extinct volcano, characterized by a landscape scattered with rocky formations. The Phanom Sawan National Park has conducted explorations throughout its area and discovered a significant number of wild orchids. As a result, the park has taken the initiative to attach these orchids to various trees along the roads and parking areas. Phanom Sawan National Park is recognized as one of the royal commemorative parks in Thailand and serves as a popular pilgrimage site for Thai Buddhists who hold deep reverence for Buddhism.
