Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu is a prominent travel destination in the local area, an ancient temple that has become a symbol of Mae Hong Son, situated atop a mountain 1,300 meters above sea level. It is often said that anyone who visits Mae Hong Son but does not come here has not truly arrived. Originally known as Wat Plai Doi, it is located on the summit of Doi Kong Mu. The pagodas of this temple were the first to be constructed in Mae Hong Son, consisting of two chedis. Later, the temple was renamed Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu after the name of the chedis. In addition to being an important religious site, it also serves as a viewpoint for the entire city of Mae Hong Son, offering breathtaking views of the landscape and the intricate ridges of the Thong Chai mountain range as far as the eye can see.
