Phra Pathom Chedi is a royal temple of the highest rank, categorized as a Ratchaworamahawihan, located in Phra Pathom Chedi Sub-district, Nakhon Pathom City, Nakhon Pathom Province. Its most significant feature is the Phra Pathom Chedi itself, which is one of the largest and tallest stupas in Thailand. The current Phra Pathom Chedi is in the Sukhothai style and was constructed during the reign of King Rama IV. It was built to enclose the two original stupas: one is a stupa in the Indian Sanchi style dating back to the time of Emperor Ashoka, and the other is an ancient Khmer-style stupa. In addition to the Phra Pathom Chedi, there is also a large rectangular area to the south of the Chedi and the ordination hall, which features the principal Buddha statue—a serene white stone Buddha. This statue is one of four seated Buddha images depicted with hanging feet, representing the teaching of Dharma, created during the Dvaravati period.
