Visit another ancient temple in Chiang Rai, believed to have been established in 1983 AD, located within the city walls to the east. The temple's distinctiveness lies in its beautifully carved wooden doors, windows, and gables, showcasing the delicate and intricate Lanna style that is truly stunning. Inside the main hall, you will find a traditional Lanna sermon chair, an antique cabinet for storing old palm-leaf scriptures, and intricate door carvings featuring the mythical vine patterns of Himmapan forest, which add to the charm and beauty of this temple. The name "Wat Si Kerd" is thought to originate from the numerous “Sli” trees found in the temple grounds. The term "Sli" (pronounced Sa-Lee) is a local dialect that has evolved into "Si," which is derived from the "Si Maha Bodhi." Thus, in essence, the Sli trees are synonymous with the Bodhi trees, making this temple not only a place of worship but also a site rich in cultural significance and visual splendor.
